# Managing users and permissions

## Quick summary

In Settings → Manage users, invite users by email and set their role and permissions. Permissions control what each person can see and do. Combine with teams to manage access at scale, and assign customers and payouts by team.

## Overview

As your team grows, you'll want the right people to have the right access—and sensitive areas locked down. **Settings → Manage users** is where you control this.

## Inviting users

1. Go to **Settings → Manage users**
2. **Add a user** by email
3. Set their **role** and **permissions**

They receive an invitation to join your account.

## Roles and permissions

- **Roles** bundle permissions for common job types, so you can grant access quickly and consistently.
- **Permissions** control what a user can see and do—customers, payments, payouts, reports, settings and more.

If a user tries something they don't have permission for, they're stopped and may see a notice that they're missing the required role. An admin can adjust their access.

## Managing access at scale

Pair users with **teams** to manage access and assignments across many people—assigning **customers** and **payouts** to a team rather than to individuals. See the teams guide.

Grant the **least** access each person needs to do their job. It's easy to add more later, and it keeps sensitive financial settings safe.
