## Quick summary

A net payment sends the school the amount after your commission is deducted. Qualy keeps your commission and forwards the rest. Whether a partner is paid net or gross is controlled by the partner's payout behaviour setting.

## Overview

When you collect tuition on a school's behalf, you usually owe the school **its share minus your commission**—the **net** amount. Qualy does this for you: it keeps your commission and forwards the rest.

## Net vs gross

There are two ways money can reach a partner:

### Net

The school receives the amount **after** your commission is deducted. You keep your commission directly. This is the most common arrangement for agents.

### Gross

The school receives the **full** amount, and your commission is collected separately. This applies only when the partner is set up as a **supplier**, and gross payouts are held for a quick review before they go out.

Whether a partner is paid net or gross is set by the partner's **payout behaviour**. You can choose **always net**, **always gross**, or behaviour that depends on whether the payment and payout currencies match.

## Why currency matters

For cross-currency deals, you can set a partner to be paid **net only when currencies match** (and gross otherwise). This handles cases where converting between currencies changes how commission should be applied.

## Set it once

Configure commission and payout behaviour on the **partnership**, and Qualy applies them automatically on every payment—no per-payment maths.

## When the school gets paid

A common worry is that the school has to wait longer than you do. It doesn't. The school's net share is created as a payout **when the customer's payment is received and clears**—the **same timing basis as your own payout**—and sent **directly** to the school. Once a payment clears, your share and the school's are set in motion together, not a month apart. The only thing that holds a partner's payout is something that needs attention, such as missing bank or legal details, or a check that's in pending review.

If a school keeps asking "why did I receive this amount?", show them the payout breakdown: it lists the original payment, your commission kept, and the net amount sent.

## Frequently asked questions

### What does 'net payment' mean?

The school receives the payment amount after your commission has been deducted. You keep your share automatically and forward the remainder—the net amount.

### What's the difference between net and gross?

Net forwards the school its share minus your commission, and you keep your commission directly. Gross forwards the full amount to the school, and your commission is collected separately—this only applies when the partner is set up as a supplier. Which one applies is set by the partner's payout behaviour.

### Where is net vs gross configured?

On the partnership, via its payout behaviour. Options include always net, always gross, or net/gross depending on whether the payment and settlement currencies match.

### Why would a currency affect net vs gross?

Some partners are paid net only when the payment and payout currencies match (and gross otherwise), because cross-currency settlement changes how the commission is handled. The 'net/gross if same currency' options cover this.

### If a currency conversion is involved, does the school still get paid directly?

Yes. When a conversion is needed, the split works exactly as normal—the school's share is sent directly to the school, even when it's in another country or currency. You're never left holding or forwarding the school's money by hand; the school receives its share directly.

### When does the school actually get its net payment—does it wait until later?

No—the school doesn't wait until later or until month's end. The school's share is created as a payout when the customer's payment is received and clears, on the same timing basis as your own payout, and sent directly to the school. So once a payment clears, both your share and the school's are set in motion together. The only thing that holds a partner's payout is something needing attention, like missing bank or legal details or a pending-review check.

### Do I have to do anything for each payment?

No. Once commission and payout behaviour are set, Qualy applies them automatically every time you collect.

### Can I see exactly what was kept and sent?

Yes. The payment breakdown and the resulting payout show the amounts kept and forwarded.

### What if the school's payment can't be completed?

Qualy marks it Failed and tells you why—for example, the school is missing a bank account or a legal address. Add the missing details and it proceeds. Or, at any time, you can ask Qualy to send that money to you instead, so it's never stuck with nowhere to go.
