# Managing commission rates for partners

> Define each partner's split once; Qualy applies it every time.

## Quick summary

On a partnership's Preferences & payment splits, set the default split: keeping a percentage, sending a percentage, a flat amount, a markup, or a split on another split. This default then applies to every payment involving the partner, and you can override it per payment.

## Overview

You shouldn't re-type commission on every payment. Set a partner's **default split** once, and Qualy applies it automatically to every payment that involves them.

## Setting the default split

Open the partnership and go to **Preferences & payment splits**. Add a **payment split** and choose its **type**:

### Keeping a percentage

You keep a percentage of the total and forward the rest to the partner. Common for agents.

### Sending a percentage

A set percentage of the total is sent to the partner.

### Flat amount

A fixed amount, regardless of the payment size.

### Markup

An extra amount that becomes its own payout.

### Split on another split

A percentage of another split—useful for layered arrangements.

This becomes the partner's **default split**.

On any individual payment, a split can be set to **"use the default split for partner"**, so it always reflects the partner's configured rate—even if you change that rate later.

## Overriding per payment

The default is a starting point, not a straitjacket. On a specific payment you can adjust the split when a one-off deal differs from the standard arrangement.

Get the defaults right for your top partners and the vast majority of payments will split correctly with zero manual effort.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where do I set a partner's commission?

On the partnership, under Preferences & payment splits. The split you set there becomes the default applied to every payment involving that partner.

### What split types can I choose?

Keeping a percentage, sending a percentage, a flat amount, a markup, a split on another split, supplier payouts, and payouts to yourself. Pick the one that matches your agreement.

### What's the difference between keeping and sending a percentage?

'Keeping a percentage' retains your share and forwards the rest to the partner; 'sending a percentage' forwards a set percentage to the partner. They describe the same split from different angles.

### Does the default apply automatically?

Yes. Once set, the default split applies to every payment involving the partner—no manual entry. You can still override it on an individual payment.

### Can I use the default explicitly on a payment?

Yes. On a split you can choose 'use the default split for partner' so it always tracks the partner's configured rate.

### Can different partners have different rates?

Yes. Each partnership has its own default split, so every partner can have a different arrangement.

### What revenue-sharing setups does this support?

Many. The same splits cover a master agent paying sub-agents (and sub-agents paying up to a master), agency franchisees, multi-office agencies dividing money between branches, and influencer or sales-rep revenue sharing. Whatever your model, you set each partner's share once and it applies automatically.
