# Building and sending forms

## Quick summary

On the Forms page, create a new form and add fields. Give it a public description, then request it from a customer—the forms you select are sent so both you and the customer can fill them in through the portal. Responses appear on the customer's Forms tab.

## Overview

Onboarding means paperwork: details to confirm, documents to collect. **Forms** let you gather exactly what you need from a customer—at any time—and they fill it in through their portal.

## Building a form

1. Open the **Forms** page
2. Click **"Create new form"**
3. Add the **fields** you need
4. Add a **public description** so customers know what it's for

## Sending it to a customer

**Request** the form from a customer. The forms you select are sent so both you and the customer can fill them in through the **portal**.

While you wait, you'll see a status such as **"Awaiting for the customer to start"**, so it's clear what's outstanding.

## Reviewing responses

Form responses appear on the customer's **Forms** tab, and on each form you can choose **"See form responses"** to read what's come in and see how many responses you've had.

Pre-fill the parts you already know before requesting a form, so the customer only completes what's missing—faster for them, cleaner for you.

## Forms as part of a service

You can **attach a form to a step** of a service, and even make submitting it a requirement before the order moves on. That way the right form is part of the journey at the right moment—no one has to remember to send it. See the service guide for setting up steps.

## Frequently asked questions

### What can I collect with a form?

Any information or documents you need from a customer. Forms can capture text answers and files, and can be filled by both you and the customer.

### How do I send a form to a customer?

Request the form from the customer. The forms you select are sent so the customer can fill them in through their portal; you'll see the status while you wait.

### Where do form responses go?

To the customer's Forms tab, and to the form itself—open it and choose 'See form responses' to read the answers and see how many responses you've had.

### Can both sides fill in a form?

Yes. A requested form can be completed by you and the customer, which is handy when you pre-fill part and the customer completes the rest.
