# Storing data with custom fields

## Quick summary

Create custom fields in Settings → Custom fields to capture information specific to your business, organised into field groups. They then appear on customer profiles (and other records) so your team captures consistent data every time.

## Overview

Every business tracks something Qualy doesn't include by default. **Custom fields** let you capture exactly that—and **field groups** keep it organised.

## Creating custom fields

Go to **Settings → Custom fields** and create the fields you need. For each field, set:

- A **label** (what your team sees)
- A **type** (single-line text, multi-line text, dropdown select, multiple checkboxes, radio select, date picker or number)
- Whether it's **required**

Organise related fields into **field groups** so profiles stay tidy.

Group fields the way your team thinks—for example a "Visa" group with passport number, visa type and expiry—so everything related sits together.

## Where they appear

Custom fields show on **customer profiles** and the **create customer** form, so the data is captured consistently from the very first entry.

Pair custom fields with **forms** to collect the information directly from customers through their portal—no manual entry on your side. See the forms guide.

Plan your fields before creating lots of them. A small, well-named set that everyone uses beats a long list of fields nobody fills in.
